Kane County officially welcomes a new village this week.

Residents of the twenty square mile area west of Chicago voted last month to incorporate themselves. Yesterday a county judge inaugurated the village of Campton Hills and its new leadership team.

Patsy Smith was appointed president.

SMITH: The main reason I think people voted to have an incorporated area was for the right of self determination. People wanted a voice and a vote in the way our area was being developed and we didn’t have one because we were an unincorporated area.

But some Campton Hills residents already want out. About fifty residents filed a court petition today to disconnect from their new village. They are worried incorporation will bring increased taxes and regulations.

The new village will have its first public meeting next week.
