SHARE Illinois State Troops Out in Full Force for Memorial Day

Memorial Day revellers be warned: this Friday, Illinois State troopers will be out in full force.

Police will be stationed every ten miles along Interstate 55 from Chicago to St. Louis. The Chicago portion of the highway will have more troopers on patrol.

Peter Negro is with the Illinois State Police.

NEGRO: People are cooped up all winter long, and they’re ready to come out and celebrate, so it’s the first big three day weekend for everybody. It’s expected to be nice weather. People are out celebrating, so we just want to make sure they do it safely.

Illinois officials say last year there were 47 crashes on I-55 over Memorial Day weekend.
