Nationwide Hispanic Health Celebrations Hit Chicago

SHARE Nationwide Hispanic Health Celebrations Hit Chicago

Hispanic groups are sponsoring the first nationwide Hispanic health awareness day.

The groups want to combat obesity and sedentary lifestyles.

Dr. Jane Delgado leads the national group that spearheaded this event.

DELGADO: In the United States we have a lot more choices than other people. And sometimes we don’t make the best choices in terms of physical activity or in terms of what we eat. And our lifestyle is not one that is pro movement. We get in our cars, we drive places.

Delgado says Hispanics often have a hard time finding fresh produce and safe parks.

The Chicago Hispanic Health Coalition is sponsoring local events in the city’s Humboldt Park tomorrow.

They’ll offer free activities including games, cooking classes, immunizations, and cholesterol screenings.
