Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says the police department correctly handled the arrest of an officer last weekend. Officer Robert Gallegos was charged with aggravated battery for allegedly breaking the jaw of a 15-year-old.

Daley says the Office of Professional Standards acted quickly to investigate the incident.

DALEY: Anybody’s off duty, whether in uniform or not in uniform and you’re off-duty, you’re going to be subject to scrutiny by everyone.

This is the third time this year that beating allegations have emerged involving off-duty Chicago police officers.

Gallegos is a 10-year veteran of the department, most recently in the mass transit unit.

A spokesman for the Cook County State’s Attorney says the officer’s arraignment has not yet been scheduled.
