Teen Runs for Mayor in Hobart

Eric Smith

Municipal elections will be held tomorrow in Indiana. An 18-year-old freshman from Loyola University is among those running for mayor of Hobart Indiana. Eric Smith is one of three candidates hoping to run the city of 25,000 residents near the intersection of I-65 and the I-80/94. He says his friends think its cool that he’s running.

SMITH: I think that’s a good portion of the reason I’m in this. It’s not just to win the mayoral election here in Hobart and influence change in Hobart, but it’s to influence change across the nation.

Smith says he hopes other young people will be inspired to get involved in politics. He’s running as an independent against Democrat Brian Snedecor and Republican John Guthrie.
