Commuters aren’t the only ones concerned about a looming transit funding shortfall. Vendors that provide services to Chicagoland’s transit systems could feel the pinch.

Jerry Torres is with a company that provides mechanical parts for the air conditioning units in Metra rail cars.

TORRES: We just have to work a little bit cheaper for what we do. We still make money on it. We just have to work a little bit faster and cheaper to get their budget down.

He says he isn’t worried about losing business. A Metra official says budget uncertainty may limit the vendors they can work with.
