Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and House Speaker Michael Madigan continue to butt heads.Yesterday, the governor said he suspects Madigan and other House Democrats are planning tax hikes for after the November election. He made his accusations while calling for a special session of the General Assembly to fix the overdue budget.

BLAGOJEVICH: If they’re not going to raise taxes on people that’s good, they should say it. But if it’s their intention to raise taxes on the people after the election be straight with the voters and then do it now.

Madigan spokesperson Steve Brown says the governor is dead wrong.

BROWN: I’m not sure how much attention the governor pays to what goes on in the legislature. That was ruled out a long time ago.

Brown says Madigan will be at the special budget session next week, but doesn’t yet see how the governor is going to fix the imbalances.
