SHARE Chicago Marshals Net Several Hundred Fugitives

Law enforcement officals from Chicago took part in a national operation to arrest fugitives accused of violent sex crimes. Today, they made clear the scope of the sweep. U.S. Marshals joined state and local officers to arrest more than 300 people in Chicago and 18,000 nationwide. Geoff Shank is with the U.S. Marshals. He says the arrests put a dent in the number of people who have been charged with violent crimes and have fled.

SHANK: With the number of warrants and the number of bad guys and the number of felons on the streets, it’s impossible to find all these people. And there’s also quite a few people who don’t want to be found.

Meantime, Illinois’ attorney general says operations like this are rare because departments are strapped for money.
