Immigration Exhibit Opens

SHARE Immigration Exhibit Opens

If you’re sick of fireworks and picnics, an exhibit is opening today that offers a fresh look at the immigration debate.

The National Museum of Mexican Art is calling its new show “A Declaration of Immigration.” It documents the immigrant experience through film, performance and visual art. Cesareo Moreno is the curator.

MORENO: By opening the exhibition on the Fourth of July, what we are trying to show is we are a part of this country. We are a part of what made this country. And in a sense the Fourth of July is everybody’s, it’s ours.

He says the immigrant viewpoint has been missing from the national debate. The exhibit aims to change that and get people talking about solutions. The opening reception this afternoon will include Chinese lion dancers, traditional Mexican music and folkloric dance.
