Newly-Acquired Harden to Pitch for Cubs this Weekend

Rich Harden will make his debut as a Chicago Cubs pitcher this weekend. The team acquired Harden yesterday from the Oakland Athletics. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry says the right-hander’s done some “world class” pitching and dismissed concerns about his injury record.

HENDRY: It’s not any secret that when he’s out there he’s about as good as it gets. You can hear that from any player in the American League that’s had the pleasure of facing him when he’s right. So, yeah, obviously, there’s some risk involved. He’s certainly missed some time.

Harden’s been on the disabled list six times in his six-year career. He’ll be with the Cubs through the 2009 season.
