Chicago Mayor Richard Daley is making changes in the leadership of the city’s 911 Center and Fire Department. Fire Commissioner Raymond Orozco will move to fill the open commissioner post at the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications. Daley said Orozco’s experience makes him the right candidate for the job.

OROZCO: Many of the preparedness and other things requires the first responders, you see fire department. You have to have someone understanding about the fire and police department in that position.

Orozco will be replaced at the Fire Department by First Deputy John Brooks. Brooks will be the second African-American Fire Commissioner in the history of the city.
