The Green Party convention this week in Chicago brought together Greens from all across the country, many of whom are running for congressional and municipal seats.

Farheen Hakeem hopes to become the first Green candidate elected to the Minnesota legislature. She says being around other like minded people at the convention has inspired her and taught her a number of lessons.

HAKEEM: Continuing to run no matter how big the obstacle is, continuing to do this no matter how tired you are, to telling you to get up and still go door knocking. I’m doing the right thing, and it never was going to be easy, but it definitely was worth it.

Hakeem says even if she isn’t elected, she plans to stay involved in politics. The Green Party is scheduled to choose their presidential nominee this afternoon at Chicago’s Symphony Center.
