The study conducted by DePaul’s Chaddick Institute analyzed recent U.S. census data. Some of what they found wasn’t surprising. Like Chicago neighborhoods owe their diversity to the influx immigrant populations. However researcher Lauren Fisher did not expect to learn that some neighborhoods were segregated by age.

FISHER: Where as income diversity and ethnic diversity we saw great differences in neighborhoods within Chicago, there really wasn’t much difference when it came to age diversity.

For example Wicker Park with its high percentage of specialty shops, restaurants and bars caters to young adults without children and with disposable income.
