Lawmakers Back in Springfield to Restore Cuts in Budget

SHARE Lawmakers Back in Springfield to Restore Cuts in Budget

Leaders in the Illinois House today plan to start restoring some of the $1.4 billion in budget cuts made by Governor Rod Blagojevich. The House met yesterday but quickly adjourned. Representative Gary Hannig is the House Democrat’s point-man on the budget. He says the caucus doesn’t plan to reverse all the cuts.

HANNIG: We’re mostly concerned about the grants that go out to not-for-profits and go out for groups and entities that provide services for Illinois citizens, and we’re concerned about state employees.

Any further changes would need Senate approval. But Senators are currently not scheduled to return to Springfield.
