Teen Swims from Northwest Indiana to Chicago

He almost made it. Ethan Hall of Chesterton, Indiana, came up six miles short. The 17-year-old was raising money for juvenile diabetes by trying to swim from a beach in Porter County, Indiana, to Chicago, a 29 mile trip.

Hall tried to swim to Chicago last summer, but stopped because of strong winds and high waves.

This time to keep from getting scared, he made a small booklet with a list of 29 different thoughts representing each mile.

HALL: For example, mile eleven was dedicated to my father because last year he was on the boat, and we stopped at 10.3 and he ever got to see me finish that mile.

Even though Hall didn’t finish, he says his swim was a success because of the money raised.
