An Illinois lawmaker has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol. House member Bob Biggins will lose his license for six months and will undergo counseling. He was also ordered to pay a fine.

The Elmhurst Republican was arrested May 28 in Springfield following a traffic stop. He was in town for the legislative session during that time. Biggins issued a statement in which he says he made a “serious mistake” and offered an apology to his family, friends and the community.

Biggins has been in the General Assembly for 15 years.
