Sox Reclaim First Place After Tough Weekend

SHARE Sox Reclaim First Place After Tough Weekend

Both Chicago baseball teams are still hanging on to first place in their divisions today, but the White Sox—just barely.

The Sox began the weekend a half-game ahead of the Minnesota Twins, but a tough loss Saturday night temporarily dropped them into second place. That game included a season-ending Achilles’ tendon injury for pitcher Jose Contreras, who’d only just returned from the disabled list. The Sox picked themselves up to win yesterday, recapturing a slim division lead.

Meantime, the Cubs took two of three from St. Louis. Ryan Dempster picked up his 13th win yesterday; that’s a team high. The Cubs have a break today. They take on the Atlanta Braves down south tomorrow.
