Another Olympic Silver for Chicago Area Swimmers

SHARE Another Olympic Silver for Chicago Area Swimmers

The Chicago area has another Olympic medalist. Lake Forest-native Matt Grevers will take home the silver in the 100-meter backstroke. This is Grevers’ second medal of the Beijing Games. He also earned a gold in the 4-by-100 meter freestyle relay. Lea Maurer coached Grevers at Lake Forest High School.

MAURER: Everyone who’s been a part of Matt Grevers’ life should celebrate that he made the Olympic team and that he’s going to the Olympics and doing a great job. There’s a lot of fantastic trainers and phenomenally talented people who aren’t lucky enough to hit it on the right day and get that ticket. But Matt has done it and he’s having the experience of a lifetime.

Another swimmer from Illinois picked-up a silver medal this week. Christine Magnuson of Tinley Park took second in the 100-meter butterfly.
