SHARE Chicago Alderman Says Lay-Offs Likely

Officials say the City of Chicago is facing a $420 million budget shortfall. One alderman says 1,800 jobs may have to be cut. George Cardenas says the city’s budget picture is bleak and officials are trying to find solutions. He says lay-offs seem inevitable.

CARDENAS: We’re going to have to sacrifice and prepare our communities for what’s coming. I mean, how deep we cut, I don’t know.

Cardenas says the potential budget cuts could affect every city department - including police and fire. The city’s finance director wouldn’t say if lay-offs were in the city’s future.
