Illinois Colleges and Universities To Fast-Track Vets' Applications

Illinois colleges and universities say they’ll fast-track the applications of military veterans. DePaul University in downtown Chicago is offering veterans instant admissions decisions.

Jon Boeckenstedt is from DePaul’s enrollment office.

BOECKENSTEDT: Normally, when a college or university considers an admissions, the application gets filed, documents come in, they get assembled, someone reviews them. And what we’re doing is just collapsing that process by asking the veteran to bring in his or her transcripts. And we’ll sit down and take the time to do the individual evaluation right there.

In June, Congress increased money for veterans’ and reservists’ education by an estimated $50 billion over the next decade.
