District Urges Chicago Students to Attend School

SHARE District Urges Chicago Students to Attend School

Chicago Public Schools is continuing its campaign against the student boycott Reverend James Meeks is planning for the first day of school. The district held an event on the far South Side Tuesday. Schools CEO Arne Duncan says Meeks’ message is harmful.

DUNCAN: Anyone who would tell children not to go to school is leading them down a path that is self-destructive. Anyone who says that not going to school is the answer to any problem is simply wrong.

Duncan says it’s important students be in school on September 2. Reverend Meeks is organizing a student boycott on that day. He says Chicago schools are inadequately funded.
