A high ranking official with the Illinois National Guard has been arrested on bribery charges.

Major Christopher West, from Chicago, served time in Afghanistan four years ago. It was there that federal prosecutors say he accepted bribes from two companies to make sure they got Department of Defense contracts. Those contracts were for cement structures to build perimeter walls and worth more than a million dollars. Prosecutors say Major West worked with two others to hand out the contracts, but they got $30,000 under the table in return. If convicted West faces up to 20 years prison time and $500,000 in fines. A spokesperson for the Illinois National Guard had no comment while the case is pending.
