Chicago Aldermen Take Transit Officials to Task on Spending

SHARE Chicago Aldermen Take Transit Officials to Task on Spending

Chicago aldermen today interrogated transit officials about how they make spending decisions.

Tom Allen is chair of the transportation committee.

ALLEN: Part of the reason I’m calling this meeting is that I want to impress upon all the transportation people that the peasants should be involved, on some level, of, you know, planning. Because the peasants ride the train.

Allen says he thinks transit riders want better service rather than big projects. Officials with the Chicago Transit Authority and the Regional Transportation Authority say they’re trying to improve the way they make funding decisions. After the meeting, Alderman Allen said he was satisfied with the agencies’ responses, but still wants to see more public input.
