Bulls Open Preseason, Look to Bounce Back

SHARE Bulls Open Preseason, Look to Bounce Back

Chicago basketball fans will get their first glimpse of hometown star Derrick Rose Thursday night, as the Bulls open preseason play at the United Center.

Last season was one to forget for the Bulls. The team had lofty preseason expectations, with some pundits even picking Chicago to make the NBA Finals. Unfortunately, things fell apart quickly.

Head coach Scott Skiles was fired mid-season, pricey big-man Ben Wallace was traded, and the team missed the playoffs.

But with the off-season came hope. The Bulls shockingly won the right to pick first in the NBA draft, and selected Chicago native Derrick Rose. The point guard wowed the college basketball world with his explosiveness and passing ability, leading Memphis to the NCAA championship game. Chicago also hired a new head coach, Vinny Del Negro, whose up-tempo style is expected to mesh well with Rose’s game.

Rose does have two experienced guards ahead of him on the roster; the battle for regular season playing time starts Thursday night.
