Economy Clouds Future for Museums

SHARE Economy Clouds Future for Museums

A turbulent economy is making the future murky for museums and other organizations that rely on grants and donations. That’s according to the John McCarter Junior, president of Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History.

McCARTER: We are right in the middle of an enormous financial crisis. And how this is going to play out in support for institutions like the Field and universities and hospitals, who knows? I mean we are in very, very different times than we had been as recently as a year ago.

McCarter spoke at an event Monday welcoming Prince Albert II of Monaco to the museum. The prince’s private foundation funds biodiversity and climate change projects. It’s agreed to work with the Field Museum for the next two years. McCarter says the partnership could help the museum during tough economic times.
