Gay rights activists are condemning the induction of a controversial radio host into the National Radio Hall of Fame, which is based in Chicago.

Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communications plans to induct James Dobson into its National Radio Hall of Fame next month.

Dobson hosts an internationally syndicated Christian radio show called Focus on the Family.

Rick Garcia of Equality Illinois says he supports diversity on the radio but says Dobson’s show promotes hatred.

GARCIA: This is a travesty and if Dobson is in they should change it to the hall of shame.

A statement from the radio hall of fame says its nominations are based on candidates’ radio achievements, not their personal views.

A spokesman for Dobson says the show addresses homosexuality with respect and compassion.
