Alvarez Picks an Old Friend to be her Second in Command

SHARE Alvarez Picks an Old Friend to be her Second in Command

Anita Alvarez has picked an old friend to help her run the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.

Alvarez has chosen Adrienne Mebane to fill the second highest post in the office. The two have known each other since they started as assistant state’s attorneys more than twenty years ago.

ALVAREZ: She’s the one that taught me how to run a call in a courtroom. And that goes way back when so i’m really honored to have her by my side.

Alvarez says as First Assistant State’s Attorney Mebane will handle the administrative duties overseeing office management, the budget, and policies.

ALVAREZ: We’ve had many conversations on what we could do differently in this office and so I’m very proud because she shares my vision and she knows the office as well as I know the office.

The two top spots in the office are now held by minority women, Alvarez is Hispanic and Mebane is African American.
