Hynes: Illinois State Government is Suffering

SHARE Hynes: Illinois State Government is Suffering

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich this morning showed up at work at the Thompson Center in downtown Chicago. That despite calls from each of Illinois’ other statewide elected officials for him to step down.

Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes says Blagojevich’s political career is over. And he says the day-to-day operations of state government are suffering because he still holds office.

HYNES: Well, yesterday, the governor was in a holding cell. So I don’t know how you can do these types of things that require gubernatorial leadership and action when he is under this swirl and cloud of corruption.

A Blagojevich spokeswoman says the state of Illinois’ day-to-day operations are still the same. She says it’s “business as usual” at the state office building in Chicago.
