As the drama around Governor Rod Blagojevich continues, many residents of neighboring states aren’t gloating over Illinois’ problems.

A politician getting indicted isn’t exactly a rarity in Northwest Indiana.

Just a few years ago, seems a local politician was making scandalous headlines nearly every week.

So, folks here, like Mark Rubacha of Griffith, Indiana, has empathy for his neighbors in Illinois.

RUBACHA: I think every state has an issue. Corruption is everywhere. I don’t see it getting better for a while.

A little farther east in New Buffalo, Michigan, Mary Hart didn’t know what to make of the allegations against Blagojevich.

HART: I’m shocked. It’s such a shame, my goodness, that the taxpayers of Illinois have to withstand things like this.

Hart says Michigan has its own political scandals to worry about, including the recent conviction of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
