Quinn Calls on Lawmakers to Impeach Blagojevich

SHARE Quinn Calls on Lawmakers to Impeach Blagojevich

Illinois Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn says lawmakers should impeach Governor Rod Blagojevich as soon as possible.

QUINN: I don’t think the legislature next Monday should fail to address the issue of impeachment and move forward on it immediately. And if they don’t, they’re not listening to the voters.

Failing that, Quinn says he would support Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s plan to go to court, and challenge the governor’s fitness to serve.

The lieutenant governor says he doesn’t think Illinois should hold a special election to fill the state’s vacant U.S. Senate seat. Because he says that would take months, and leave Illinois with only one senator for too long. Quinn would take over for Blagojevich if he resigns or is removed from office. That would give Quinn the power to name a new senator.
