SHARE Chicago Critics Pick Best Movies of the Year

Chicago-area film critics awarded their picks for best movies of the year today.

The big winner from the Chicago Film Critics Association was an animated movie. Wall-E, from Pixar and Disney, scored four awards, including best picture and best original screenplay.

Slumdog Millionaire, about a teen from the slums of India who becomes a top game-show competitor, took three awards including best director.

The late Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor for his work as the Joker, in The Dark Knight. That Batman flick, which was filmed here in Chicago, also took best cinematography.

The Chicago Film Critics Association includes more than 50 critics from radio, TV, newspapers and the Internet.
