About 20,000 ComEd customers are without electricity this morning due to the winter storm.

ComEd spokesperson Alicia Zatkowski says power went out in neighborhoods and suburbs south of Midway airport and along the Cook County border. She says there’s about 250 crews working to restore power.

ZATKOWSKI: Wind and ice are the biggest threats to providing reliable service. So as the ice weighs down the wires if the wind picks up we may see more outages.

Northern Indiana Public Service Company is reporting about 27,000 NIPSCO customers without power.

A NIPSCO spokesperson says Monticello and Hammond have the largest outages as of 6 o’clock this morning.
