Illinois’ Lieutenant Governor says he has a team in place to help him transition to the governor’s seat if he’s called to take over. It’s now been two weeks since Governor Rod Blagojevich was arrested on corruption charges.

In that time, the governor has said he will fight the allegations and won’t resign. Still, every top state official has called for Blagojevich to step down. Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn is next in line to be the governor and he says he wants to be ready if it comes to that.

QUINN: I don’t want to be presumptuous. If the governor decides to resign or step aside or if he is convicted upon impeachment, I want to make sure the people of Illinois know that our government will go forward without any kind of interruption.

Quinn says he does not think state lawmakers are rushing to judgment against the governor. Quinn says he thinks the House impeachment hearings have gone well so far.
