The special House panel investigating whether or not Blagojevich deserves to be removed from office is made up of legislators who have for years been sharply critical of the governor.

Nonetheless, the committee members say they have made a concerted effort not to pre-judge. Republican Representatives like Jim Durkin, who’s from Western Springs, says that objectivity has been undercut by making public the committee’s report recommending Blagojevich be impeached before a committee vote, likely this afternoon.

DURKIN: Something of this magnitude, which we’re investigating, I think it’s important for us to follow the protocol and procedure, which we set out from the first date.

A spokesman for House Democrats says they wanted to make sure members of the House, and the general public, had adequate time to review the report before the committee considered it.
