Third Trial for Liberty City Men

SHARE Third Trial for Liberty City Men

Some members of the so-called Liberty City Seven are back in trial for the third time. The group of Miami men were first charged with conspiring to blow up the Sears Tower in 2006.

Potential jurors are being questioned today in a federal court in Miami. It’s for the third trial of six men accused of plotting to bomb the Sears Tower and FBI offices. One of the original defendants was acquitted in the first trial. But juries haven’t been able to reach a verdict for the other members of the group.

Prosecutors say FBI records show the men swore an oath to al-Qaida and were intent on toppling the U.S. government. Defense lawyers accuse the FBI of entrapping the men and say no evidence indicates the group was close to committing any terrorist attacks.

Jury selection could take a couple of weeks.
