Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says he’s ready to work with former Democratic gubernatorial rival Dan Hynes.

The governor spoke shortly after the comptroller conceded the tight primary race this morning. Quinn says it’s important for him to work with Hynes on the issues facing the state.

QUINN: I saw in the campaign he has the heart of a lion. He’s a very, very bright and intelligent public official. And we need his intelligence and his commitment to help us get through one of the toughest times we’ve ever had in Illinois.

Quinn also says there are important questions the party’s nominee for lieutenant governor needs to answer.

The governor is calling on Scott Lee Cohen to discuss his 2005 arrest for domestic battery. The charges in the case were later dropped. Quinn says he thinks Cohen will end up pulling out of the race.
