The main roads in Chicago should be clear, but good luck getting around on the side streets. Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Thomas Byrne says plows started working on the secondary routes early this morning.

BYRNE: It’ll take us a long time. We’re going to assess it hour by hour. I’m looking at at least 8 hours right now to see how much longer I might need to stay in there.

Byrne says main routes are in what he calls “running water condition.” The National Weather Service reports almost 13 inches of snow fell at O’Hare International Airport. It says blowing snow is expected until about 9 a.m. with gusts as high as 30 miles per hour.
