Republican Congressman Reacts to New Health Care Proposal

SHARE Republican Congressman Reacts to New Health Care Proposal

A Republican Congressman from Chicago’s western suburbs is taking issue with the president’s newly unveiled health care compromise proposal. Barack Obama offered a new plan after Democrats lost their 60-seat super-majority in the Senate. But Congressman Peter Roskam says the president’s plan doesn’t offer anything new that hasn’t already been discussed.

ROSKAM: I think the White House is trotting out these old leftovers and just kind of putting them in the microwave and see if people will go for it and I think clearly the public has said, “No.”

Roskam says a health care bill should take a more incremental approach to drive down costs. And he says the White House health care summit with congressional leaders scheduled for later this week will likely be more symbolic than substantive.
