Chicago Board of Education Considers School Closings

SHARE Chicago Board of Education Considers School Closings

The Chicago Board of Education is scheduled to vote on school closings today. Late yesterday, CPS pulled two schools slated for shutdown off the closings list.

One is Prescott Elementary in Lakeview, where parent Jenn Lister fought to keep the school open.

LISTER: I guess CPS to some degree is listening to some degree is listening to what the community is saying. I know not every school has been pulled off the list, and I really hope that every other school gets the same fortune as we do. But at least they are starting to hear it.

Prescott was targeted for low-enrollment. Other schools face closure or having their staffs fired for chronic low- performance. All told, the district is recommending the Board vote to close three schools, and fire all staff at five others.
