A Chicago-area hockey player gets ready to battle Canada in the women’s Olympic gold medal game tonight. Hockey fans in Plainfield will be cheering on Lisa Chesson and Team U.S.A.

Lisa Chesson grew up playing on the boys team before girls hockey made it to the southwest suburbs. Tonight, the Plainfield defenseman and her fellow U.S. women take on Canada, the reigning Olympic gold medal team. The U.S. Team earned their spot in the gold medal game by defeating Sweden 9-1 in the semi-finals.

Tim Picco is the head coach for the Plainfield High School Hockey Club. He thinks it’ll be a close game.

PICCO: I think that it’s just going to come down to who wants it more and who doesn’t make the mistake. And I think that the way Team USA has been dominating teams, I think it looks good for them tonight, but Canada is very very tough.

Chesson has racked up two goals and three assists over the Games so far.

No matter who wins tonight, the U.S. women will make it on to the Vancouver podium.
