Marty McConnell


Marty McConnell, a Chicago poet who has appeared on HBO’s “Def Poetry Jam,” performs. McConnell’s poems comment on 21st-century America, mashing together Catholic saints, pop-culture icons and tarot cards. She co-founded and toured with the Morrigan, an all-female performance poetry troupe. While living in New York from 1999 to 2009, she competed in six National Poetry Slams with the NYC/louderARTS team. After moving to Chicago in 2009, she established Vox Ferus, an organization dedicated to connecting and strengthening individuals and communities through the written and spoken word. She runs the popular Vox Ferus After Dark writing workshops.
