New study examines effectiveness of STEM schools

The combined disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math will receive added emphasis, as Chicago Public Schools will begin 10 new STEM programs in the fall. CPS believes STEM schools are the wave of the future, designed to make students ready for colleges and careers in the tech industries--similar to vocational schools that prepared kids for the industrial world of the 20th century. The schools are run in partnership with companies such as IBM, Verizon, Cisco Systems and other companies. Students who graduate from STEM schools would receive industry certifications, college credits or even an associates degree. The Chicago STEM Pathways Cooperative today released a study that deserves a closer look. The study's co-author Gabe Lyon joins the conversation. Share your experience.
