Loss of downtown Puerto Rican Parade stirs community debate

Yesterday marked the start of the 31st Annual Puerto Rican Festival in Humboldt Park. This is the first year without the downtown Puerto Rican Day Parade. The idea was to merge the two festivals to create a stronger, bigger celebration, but some within the Puerto Rican community feel slighted. Others worry that greater turnout could bring violence.
