What are the local issues in fracking?

A bill that passed last month to regulate fracking in Illinois could open the doors for a natural gas boom. But this week our Front and Center series has been looking at an element of fracking that's already close to home. Just about 80 miles from Chicago in La Salle county is one of the finest deposits of frac sand in the country, and a new mine is proposed right next to Starved Rock State Park. Former Pritzker fellow and WBEZ contributor Lewis Wallace and Chris Bentley, who writes about the environment for WBEZ, will lead the conversation. Niala will also be joined by Kate Prengaman, reporter at the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism, Ed Maher who represents the sand mining workers and Mike Harsted, Director of Environmental Services in Lasalle County.
