"Redefine the Drive" project look to redesign Lake Shore Drive

Lake Shore Drive needs a makeover. A study by the Illinois Department of Transportation found major issues with the Drive. The road lacks emergency shoulders and guard rails, and some of the pedestrian tunnels and bridges are 80-years-old. City and State officials launched the “Redefine the Drive” project, to tackle these issues. Today, officials are holding a public meeting and open house so people can brainstorm and share ideas on how to make the drive better. Architect John Krause, who was just at the meeting and released his own proposal on how to fix the drive and Steven Vance, a writer for Streetblog Chicago, discuss the prospective changes.
