Is Chicago the U.S. murder capital?

This summer’s gun violence has led some to call Chicago the ‘Murder Capital’ of the nation. A recent Pew study shows that Chicago isn't the murder capital, at least when you consider the city’s high population. If you adjust the numbers for our higher population, you get an entirely different picture. According to the study, Chicago is nowhere near the top. When you look at the big cities and their ratios of murders to population, Chicago is 21st. The highest is Flint, Michigan. So what does all this mean to you? Does it change your perception of how violent Chicago is? WBEZ's Neel Thakkar asked Chicagoans what they think about the ‘Murder Capital’ moniker. Photo Credit: NROSTATIC
