Law enforcement unravel elaborate mob scheme

Country clubs, shady lawyers, fake cops, mobsters and Mexican cartels, those are all of the elements of a recent story that could have been ripped from a Martin Scorsese film. Four Chicago men and one woman, with reputed ties to the Outfit, have been arrested after robbing what they thought to be a Mexican cartel stash house full of cocaine. The suspects masqueraded as law enforcement officers when they kicked in the door of the far south side home on July 16th and seized the cocaine. Unfortunately for them the entire setup was a sting initiated by local police and the FBI. The five individuals have a history of robbing stash homes and other residences and then selling the booty on Chicago’s streets. Chicago Tribune reporter Jason Meisner, who wrote a recent article on this story that could easily be the basis of a screenplay, joins us to discuss. Photo Credit: Chicago Tribune
