Music in Chicago is all about the scene. Remember the Blue Groove Lounge? It was Mondays in Chicago and you’d pay a cover and walk down into the depths of the Elbo Room on Lincoln Avenue. You’d hear DJs and rappers applying a soundtrack and you would get lost. It was a great feeling and a feeling that is probably universal regardless of the genre of music. The party was hosted by DJ Jesse De La Pena and kept going for nine years until 2003. Through the years party had a few venue changes. It started at the Elbo Room, moved to the Funky Buddha Lounge and to the Double Door where they’re resuming the party tomorrow night. Jesse is of course the curator of our weekly Friday House Mix and today he’s here in studio with us. We're also bringing you his most recent house mix. Photo Courtesy of Flickr/ Auroramixer
