The 1963 bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, is a touchstone of the civil rights movement. And it inspired north suburban Evanston resident Gloria Bond Clunie to write the play, Shoes. A production of Shoes continues through February 27, 2005, at Victory Gardens Theater—2257 North Lincoln Avenue in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood.
