The deadline for bids on the Chicago-based Tribune Company came and went yesterday without much fanfare. The company put itself up for sale after an uprising last summer led by the Chandler family. At the time, the shareholders questioned Tribune management and called for a breakup of the company. While the Wall Street Journal reports this morning that at least three offers have been made, none of the bids appears at first glance to save the embattled media conglomerate.
